Cycling is an exciting sport that tones muscles and strengthens the cardiovascular system. It also is an enjoyable recreational activity that offers fun and relaxation and provides an inexpensive form of transportation.

Cycling was introduced at the 1987 Special Olympics World Games as a demonstration sport. Twenty-one athletes participated and proved their skill and ability. One year later, cycling was adopted as an official Special Olympics sport.
